affect alien manifesto

(2023)

We are affect aliens,
playful, curious, mischievous, courageous,
gently disruptive.

We venture from our mothership
when we feel safe, brave, intrigued, aroused.

We are always wandering and wondering,
insatiable in our appetites,
    in-joy-ing our journeys,
    our destinations always unknown.

We move slowly, tentatively, sensitively,
creating spaces of difference that hold another sense of time,
holding spaces of otherness, with compassion, with care.

Our bodies
“naturally technological,
artificially unnatural,
    computer-activated,
    genetically engineered, but
    environmentally grounded”. (Braidotti, 2022)

We observe, listen, spend time not-doing,
to open and feel,
    to perform and create.
We are an opening of openness.

Our intention is to learn through attention:
    attention to detail,
micro and macro details of matter
    come to matter to us.

We speculate and fabulate,
    upon the visible and invisible,
    the human and more-than-human,
of times passed and times yet to come.

We learn by feeling matters.
We feel matters by touching and being touched.
In touching,
    we move matter and meaning
In touching,
    we move and are moved.
Together.
