D03 Il-Frammenti ta’Saffo

Il-Frammenti ta’Saffo (2023) is a site-specific performance which interprets fragments of texts by pionering queer poetess Sappho translated to Maltese by Warren Bartolo. Warren's translations of Saffo's fragments serve as a poetic device for a fresh encounter with timeless femininity by the four female performers. Set in an open-air amphitheatre with the layered landscape of the northeast of Malta as a backdrop, Saffo’s words are drawn from Ancient Greece to to life in a delicately-woven tapestry of light, sound, movement, and words.
