D02 → Moving in Lines
Moving in Lines: Mapping Affective Geometries (2023) is a live-composition performance which maps the ballroom of the Casino Maltese in Valletta through unusual perspectives. The Euclidean qualities of the space are explored initially, the rational geometries emphasized by the use of a high intensity torch attached to my body and a singular laser beam cutting through the central axis of the room. From the staircases and the peripheries of the room, more obscure geometries come to the fore, using a body-mounted camera to steam live capture of ongoing tactile dialogue with the space. Sound and light take to movement all throughout, immersing audiences within a fluid field of affective potential. My body lands in a spot under one of the magnificent chandeliers, where intimate details of contact between my skin and the floorboards are magnified on screens and projected onto the whole ceiling. The affective map is consolidated through a condensed reiteration of the full journey, leaving the audiences with a multisensorial feast and possibly, a renewed outlook on this historical place.
